When creating content or fashioning posts to head out into the world and grab attention, don’t forget to occasionally do original research.  Okay, but what does “original research” mean?

All that means is to include FRESH studies, information, research, statistics, etc.  By being the one who creates the pie chart or case study, you will not only be providing unique value to your followers and the community at large but others will use your content or cite you in their content.  This is a fantastic way to build organic backlinks and to establish yourself as an authority in that field.

Some quick ways to create original research are:

• Case Studies – Do a case study based on your brand or product successes or failures.
• Company Findings – Analyze your company or product data/metrics and tell people about it.   It could be anything from how your product performs in different regions to how your fiscal quarter shaped up.
• Ask Your Base – Ask your customers if there are any questions that need answered or information that needs more data.  Do research, conduct interviews – however you think will thoroughly solve their inquiry.
• Quiz Your Pals – Conduct a survey of people active in your industry and collect the results.  You can ask about a particular topic, clarification of data or even just ask them why they joined the industry in the first place.  Surveys make great visuals such as infographics or pie charts.

Original research does not have to be time-consuming or expensive.  You can ask a few questions or peruse your own customer stories and company data specs.  If you want to devote time and money to really solving a problem with complex research and establish yourself as an industry head, go for it but it isn’t necessary to create great original research.
