The biggest asset and challenge to business owners and marketers nowadays is creating content.  While the search engines love to see fresh, consistent content, your readers and potential buyers may be put off by what you push out.  Here are a few tips to make sure that your basic article content is EASY TO READ and even EASIER TO DIGEST.

• Avoid long, drawn-out paragraphs.  2 or 3 sentence paragraphs are much easier on the eye and much simpler to digest.
• Make sure your content is separated into sections that make sense.  In other words, don’t have a sentence on “How To Feed Your Bird” in the same paragraph section as “How To Bathe Your Bird”.  This makes no sense and drives people off.
• People love LISTS!  Bullet some key points or highlight a few takeaways.
• Try to be engaging and not sound like the droning teacher from Ferris Bueller.  Bonus points if you can weave some storytelling or case studies in there.
• A picture says a 1,000 words.  It also makes your article easier on the eyeballs.
• Spell check and correct grammar are a MUST.  A couple of honest misses are okay but the majority of folks can’t read something if they spend most of the time correcting it.  They’ll just click away and, over time, you look less like a professional or expert.
• If you have videos or pictures that can demonstrate your point or highlight the gist of the text, USE THEM.  People love visuals and it can help drive your point home.  Just make sure they support your text.
• Do NOT over use the gift of Caps Lock and the exclamation point.  Use sparingly and when necessary otherwise you look like a high school drama queen and no one can enjoy their cake.

By following these simple tips you should be on your way to engaging your audience and creating content that sticks.  The most important thing to remember when creating content is to HAVE FUN!
