Sometimes we become so wrapped up in complexities that we forget the most basic of things, such as what the function keys on a keyboard do in the Windows Operating System.
WHAT DO THE FUNCTION KEYS DO?
WINDOWS – PART 1
- F1 – Opens a Help Menu or Support Page Relating To The Page You’re On.
- F2 – Instantly Rename a File, Folder or Object. Type in the new name and press “Enter”.
- F3 – Opens a “Find” Box. Could be a File Search Window or a Find on Page Box.
- F4 – Display the Address Bar or Use with Other Keys For Combos. Ex. Ctrl and F4 closes your current document.
- F5 – Refresh a Page. In Powerpoint, can start slideshows.
- F6 – Cycles Your Cursor through Various Points on a page.
- F7 – In Microsoft Word, runs Spelling & Grammar Check. Shift and F7 opens the Thesaurus.
- F8 – Tap Repeatedly during Reboots to bring up the Recovery Screen so you can access Safe Mode.
- F9 – Refresh Fields in Microsoft Word and Have Outlook Send and Receive Messages.
